The Eco-Warrior team at Churchfield is committed to creating a much more eco-friendly and sustainable environment here at Churchfield. Using our Sustainability action plan and our intelligent minds, we are committed to making changes to our school community and local area. To ensure this we meet termly to ensure we are maintaining are standards and striving to become even more eco-friendly!

Our Action Plan
The Warriors have three key goals which they would like to achieve by the end of next year:
Sustainability Policy
- Introduction
At Churchfield, we desire to promote sustainability and environmental responsibility in all aspects of school life. We recognise our role in fostering a culture of sustainability among pupils, staff and our local community. Our aim is to reduce our environmental impact and empower our students to be future custodians of the planet. - Aims
Our sustainability policy seeks to:
- Minimise waste and encourage recycling.
- Promote responsible energy and water use.
- Enhance biodiversity and protect natural resources.
- Educate students on environmental issues.
- Engage with the local community on sustainability initiatives.
- Waste and Recycling
- Maintain clearly labelled recycling bins across the school.
- Encourage staff and students to reduce single-use plastics.
- Energy and Water Conservation
- Encourage turning off lights, computers and other electronics when not in use.
- Educate students on responsible water use.
- Regularly monitor energy and water consumption.
- School Garden and Farm
- Use the school garden to grow fruits, vegetables and plants to promote biodiversity.
- Encourage students to participate in maintaining the garden and farm.
- Curriculum and Awareness
- Encourage student-led initiatives and sustainability projects.
- Recognise and reward efforts towards sustainability.
- Community Engagement
- Work with parents, local businesses and environmental groups to promote sustainability.
- Encourage pupils to take sustainability knowledge into their homes.
- Monitoring and Review
- Conduct an annual sustainability review.
- Gather feedback from students, staff, and the community.
- Set achievable sustainability goals each year.
Our Current Action Plan Targets
Action Plan: To reduce energy consumption across the school
- switching off lights when not needed.
- turn off electronics in rooms that are not used.
- switching off non-essential appliances at the end of the day and at the end of terms.
Action Plan: Re-introduce the information of growing our own plants and vegetables.
- Using our gardening grant to buy the right equipment.
- Have dedicated sessions to planting and watering our produce.
2025/2026 News and Updates!
Our Partnership with The Felix Project
We’re proud to be supported by The Felix Project, a charity that rescues surplus food and redistributes it to schools and communities across London. By reducing food waste and helping families in need, The Felix Project promotes sustainability and care for our planet. Our partnership helps children understand the importance of sharing resources, protecting the environment and supporting one another.
School Grant from School Food Matters!
Recently, we received a grant from schoolfoodmatters.org to plant vegetables in the Spring term when it’s much warmer. With this money, we will be able to buy equipment to start planting! We are looking forward to making our own produce on the school grounds!
Trip to Westminster Abbey
On the 16th October, our children were invited by The Felix Project to attend the Harvest Festival at Westminster Abbey. We travelled into central London and were amazed by the beauty and history of the Abbey. During the service, they joined other schools in celebrating the importance of sharing and helping others.
