We believe that every child will make progress in their learning, no matter what their starting point is, with the right teaching. We strive to ensure that our children have access to exciting, real-life experiences which bring learning to life. With our experienced team of Early Years practitioners, there is a wealth of child development knowledge in our unit. We use this to ensure that, no matter what barriers children may have, they are able to fulfill their potential and make good or better progress. All children are individuals and have different ways of learning. We use our children’s interests to inspire our planning and learning environments, alongside the characteristics of effective learning, to create opportunities for them to learn in ways that best suit them.
Our relationship with our families is very important to us and is crucial to the progress of the children. We introduced the use of facebook as a way to communicate with all of our families. We use lots of photographs to share learning and the translate function is really useful for those parents who may not speak English. This practise has evolved and developed over recent years. Parents who have been part of our school community for a long period of time have told us that they have never felt so informed and equipped to support their child’s learning at home.
Our Nursery and Reception teams work closely together to deliver a curriculum that builds upon previous learning and ensures that children have a smooth transition between our Nursery and Reception classes.
At Churchfield, we are very lucky to be set in large grounds, benefiting from large play areas, a field and even a farm! We have a variety of animals, including goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, guinea-pigs and rabbits. We use these facilities to provide the children with exciting experiences right here on our school site.
